Conducted by the Council of Architecture, NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) is a national level common Aptitude Test in Architecture. The exam measures the applicants' drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking ability, that have been acquired over a long period of time, and that are related to Architecture.

A single window exam, NATA is used for admissions to first year of 5 year BArch Degree Course at all recognized Institutions all over country.

According to the Council of Architecture admission guidelines, a candidate applying to any school / college of architecture in India should have achieved 40% score in NATA, i.e. at least 80/200, for consideration of admission into first year BArch.


Minimum Criteria

Eligiblility to appear for NATA 2018:

·         The lower age limit for appearing in NATA-2018 has been waived. However, the candidate has to comply with any age constraints that may be specified by respective Counselling/ Admission Authority.

·         10+2 or equivalent passed/appearing with Mathematics as one of the subjects of examination. 

·         10+3 Diploma (any stream) passed/appearing recognized by Central/State Govts with Mathematics as one of the subjects of examination

·         International Baccalaureate Diploma passed/appearing, after 10 years of Schooling with Mathematics as compulsory subject of examinations

Note: In view of 10th Std Grade cards from which marks is not easily obtainable, Application Form fields "Total Marks", "Obtained Marks" are made Optional.

Application Process

Steps to fill NATA 2018 application form

·         Step 1 – Registration: The candidate has to get registered using details like valid email id, mobile number, date of birth, and user name. The candidate will also be required to choose a user-name and create password for future log-ins.

·         Step 2 – Log-in to account to fill application form: After logging in, candidates have to enter their personal, communication, and academic details. The exam centres (three options have to be chosen) also have to be chosen in this step.

·         Step 3 – Uploading of document: In this step, the candidate has to upload their photograph, signature and community certificate (if admission is sought under reserved category). The uploaded documents have to meet the specifications outlined in the table below.

·         Step 4 – Submission of form: After uploading the documents, the candidate has to submit the application form, upon which a 7-digit application number will be generated. Please note that once the application is submitted, it cannot be edited any further.

·         Step 5 – Payment of application fee: In the penultimate step, application fee of Rs. 1800 ( Rs. 1500 for SC/ST candidates) has to be paid. The fee can be paid online using credit card, debit card, or net banking. 

·         Step 6 – Printing of confirmation page: If the payment is successful, the application confirmation page will be displayed. The candidate needs to download and take a printout of it.

Exam Pattern

When preparing for the national-level exam, it is important that the candidate is aware of the exam pattern of  NATA 2018. It is because by going through the NATA exam pattern 2018, the candidate will get to know many important facets of the exam including types of questions asked, mode of the exam, and marking scheme.

Some of the highlights of NATA 2018 Exam Pattern

·         Number of papers: Candidates will have to appear in one paper only, which has two parts: Part A and Part B

·         Types of Questions asked and Mode of exam – The question type and mode is different for each part.

1.     Part A: This part will include multiple choice questions only which have ton be answered online. Part A will have 60 questions from Mathematics and General Aptitude sections.

2.     Part B: Subjective questions will be asked in this part which have to be answered on A4 Size drawing sheets (offline). This part will have two questions only (Drawing-based).

·         Marking scheme: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) each carry 2 marks. The two questions in Part B each carries 40 marks. 

·         Duration: Each part will be of 90 minutes, and the total duration will be 180 minutes (3 hours)

Syllabus

Candidates must follow the official syllabus of NATA 2018 released by Council of Architecture for exam preparation. The NATA 2018 syllabus will include the topics covered in both Part A and Part B. In case of Part A, the syllabus includes section-wise topics for Mathematics and General Aptitude.
