Kerala Teachers Eligibility Test (KTET) is conducted by the Government of Kerala. The persons recruited as teachers should possess the essential aptitude and ability to meet the challenges of teaching at all levels of schooling. It is the examination to assess the eligibility of teacher candidates for Lower Primary, Upper Primary and High School Classes in Kerala. Separate test are conducted to select teachers for Category I (Lower Primary classes), Category II (Upper Primary classes) and Category III (High School classes).

 

The test is for:

 

·         those who intend to be a teacher for Lower Primary classes and fulfills the minimum educational qualification (Category I)

·         those who intend to be a teacher for Upper Primary classes and fulfills the minimum qualification (Category II)

·         those who intend to be a teacher for High School classes and fulfils the minimum qualification (Category III)

·         those who intend to be a language teacher up to Upper Primary classes and fulfill the minimum qualification. For Specialist teachers and Physical Education teachers, K-TET is applicable up to High School level (Category IV).

Minimum Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates applying for Kerala TET should possess following educational qualifications:

Category I

§  Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and two-year Trained Teachers’ Certificate (TTC) [by whatever name known] conducted by Board of Examination, Govt. of Kerala or its equivalent. or Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations 2002 or Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.). or Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)

Category II

§  B.A/ B.Sc./ B.Com. and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education/ Trained Teachers’ Certificate (TTC) [by whatever name known] conducted by Board of Exam, Govt. of Kerala or its equivalent. or BA/ B.Sc. / B.Com with at least 45% marks and one-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.), in accordance with NCTE (Recognition, Norms and Procedure) regulations issued from time to time in this regard or Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4 year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.). or Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4 year BA/ B.Sc.Ed or B.A. Ed or B.Sc.Ed

Category III

§  (i). BA/ BSc/ B.Com with at least 45% marks and a B.Ed. Degree in the subject concerned (from any one of the Universities in Kerala or have acquired these qualifications from any other Universities recognized as equivalent thereto)

§  (ii) For Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, those who have MSc.Ed. Degree in the subject concerned with not less than 50% marks from one of the Regional Institutes of Education sponsored by NCERT will be eligible to apply. For Botany and Zoology subjects, those with MSc.Ed. Degree in Life Science with not less than 50% marks from any of the Regional Institutes of Education are eligible to apply

Category IV

§  Those who have acquired qualifications for the posts of Language Teachers of Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit & Urdu (up to Upper Primary level), Specialist teachers & Physical Education teachers as mentioned in Chapter XXXI of Kerala Education Act and Rules are eligible to apply for K-TET IV 

Age Limit

§  There is no age limit prescribed for candidates appearing for K-TET

Application Process

Step 1: Fill KTET Application Form

Candidates need to submit their KTET 2018 application form online on the official website of Pareeksha Bhavan. Along with the application form aspirants need to submit the receipt of online payment or Chalan and copy of the certificates at Pareeksha Bhavan. Candidates can select the district of their test centre while filling the application form for KTET exam.

Aspirants can pay K-TET 2018 examination fee by Credit Card/Debit Card, Net banking or by submitting Challan in cash in Account Number- 67371493960 Kerala 16 TET such that it is drawn in favour of the Director, SCERT, Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram at any branch of State Bank of Travancore.

Step 2: Download K-TET Admit Card

Candidates need to download their KTET 2018 admit card from the official website of Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan. No separate admit card will be sent to aspirants by post. KTET admit card contains the candidate’s name and test centre details.

Step 3: Appear for KTET Exam

KTET exam I, II, III and IV are of two and a half hour duration. Candidates need to reach their K-TET test centre atleast 30 minutes before the commencement of the exam. Aspirants need to attempt K-TET 2018 exam on an OMR sheet.

Step 4: Check KTET Result

Result for KTET 2018 would be declared on the official website of Pareeksha Bhavan. Candidates who make it to the merit list of K-TET exam need to produce their original documents before the District Educational Officer who issues K-TET certificate for verification.

Paper Pattern for Category-I

§  There will be only one paper in this category. All questions will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with four distracters. Each question carries one mark. There will be four alternatives out of which one will be the correct answer. The total number of MCQs shall be 150

i.        Child Development & Pedagogy (relevant to age group 6-11) /Mathematics/Environmental Studies: 30 (MCQs), 30 (Marks)

ii.        Language-I: Malayalam/Tamil/Kannada: 30 (MCQs), 30 (Marks)

iii.        Language-II: English /Arabic* 30 (MCQs), 30 (Marks)

Paper Pattern for Category-II

§  There will be only one paper in this category. All questions will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with four distracters. Each question carries one mark. There will be four alternatives out of which one will be the correct answer. The total number of MCQs shall be 150

i.                Child Development and Pedagogy (relevant to age group 11-14): 30 (MCQs); 30 (Marks)

  1. a) For Mathematics and Science teachers: Mathematics and Science or (b) For Social Science teachers: Social Science or (c) for any other teachers (a) or (b): 60 (MCQs); 60 (Marks)
  2. Language I-Malayalam/Tamil/Kannada/English: 30 (MCQs); 30 (Marks)
  3. Language II-(Other than Language I) Malayalam/English: 30 (MCQs); 30 (Marks)

Paper Pattern for Category-III

§  There shall be one paper in this category. All questions will be of Multiple Choice type (MCQs) each carrying one mark

  1. Adolescent Psychology, Theories of Learning and Teaching Aptitude: 40 (MCQs); 30 (Marks)

ii.        Language: Malayalam / English/Tamil /Kannada: 30 (MCQs); 30 (Marks)

iii.        Subject specific areas (Content & Pedagogy): 80 (MCQ); 80 Marks

§  Total: 150 (Multi Choice Questions); 150 (Marks)

Paper Pattern for Category-IV

§  There will be only one paper in this category. All questions will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) each carrying one mark. There will be four alternative s out of which one will be the correct answer

Qualifying Marks

§  A person who scores 60% or more in the K-TET examination will be considered ‘KTET passed’ or ‘K-TET qualified’. This will be the qualifying marks for all categories

§  Negative Marks: There shall be no negative marks for the test
