Common Admission Test or “CAT” is a national-level entrance examination conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) on a rotation basis every year. CAT scores are used by the IIMs and other top business schools in India such as SPJIMR, FMS, MDI, NITIE etc. for admission to their MBA, PGDM, and other management courses. CAT 2018 is expected to be held in November 2018. More than two lakh aspirants apply for CAT every year.

 IIM Calcutta is expected to be the convener for CAT 2018.


Minimum Criteria

There are certain eligibility criteria to appear for CAT. Candidates must meet these criteria before they decide to fill the application form.

§  Age Limit: Candidate must be 20 years of age or above that.

§  Education Qualification: The candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA. It is 45% for SC, ST and PWD/DA category.

1.      Percentage obtained in the bachelor’s degree would be calculated on the basis of practice followed by the concerned university or institution.

2.      In case of grades or CGPA, the conversion would be based on the process defined by the concerned university or institution.

3.      Candidate’s CGPA will be divided by maximum possible CGPA and multiply the result with 100 in the absence of percentage conversion scheme.

4.      Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification are also eligible to sit for the CAT exam.

Application Process

CAT 2018 Application Form can be filled in online mode only. In order to apply for CAT, candidates have to visit the official website of CAT and register themselves first.

 Candidates can simply follow the steps discussed below to fill and submit their form:

 §  Log onto the official website of Indian Institute of Management https://iimcat.ac.in

 §  Register yourself with a valid Email ID and Phone number.

 §  IIM will send the login credentials to the candidates through SMS and email.

 §  After receiving the login credentials, candidates have to log into the application window and fill up the online application form which is divided into the following areas-

6.      Selecting Test Centres and Interview Cities

 §  Candidates are advised to review the application form once filled. Make sure to upload the necessary attachments with the form

1.      Candidates Photograph- jpeg format

2.      Candidates signature- jpeg format

3.      Photograph should be clear and the signature should be legible enough in order to be eligible.

Exam Pattern

The duration of CAT 2018 will be 3 hours or 180 minutes, with 60 minutes for each  section.

The paper shall have both objective-type questions (MCQs)and subjective-type questionsEach question shall carry 3 marksThere shall be 3 sections in the CAT 2018 paper: Quantitative AbilityVerbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, and Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning.

While there shall be a penalty of 1 mark for each incorrect answer to an MCQ, there shall be no negative marking for the subjective questions.
